Ceramics that capture the Spirit of Place

With my  autonomous ceramic sculptures, I explore the common meeting point of Space and Vessel. Related to this, my deal with the reinterpretation of the term „ Genius Loci” used in architecture. It is an ancient Roman term meaning „Spirit of Place”. This suggest that every place has a kind of spirituality that comes from the people who live there and the objects created by environment, which can be traced back to Animism, the belief in the Spirit. I build these spatial constructions layer by layer, freehand, which the most archaic method of making pot, resulting in living, breathing surface. These objects are spatial variants of organic and geometric shapes which form multi-view light-shadow, line-space compositions.

„The sour scent of clay, its moist, dry, soft and fragile properties, make for a close physical experience that reaches its ultimate consistency in the digestive fire. The hand-formed clay surfaces and shapes are a result of slow, layer-by-layer construction.

Contemplation.

Self-reflection.

The vacuum between outer and inner space defines the shape.

Geminity, twin identities. Images and spaces of transitional states appear. Situations and relationships result in an ultimate unity.

Time is change. Space is time and body.

Silence is presence. “

Living Surfaces. Autonomous Forms.

Built without molds, the layered freehand technique results in dynamic objects that are spatial variants of organic shapes. They invite the viewer to explore the shifting, multi-view compositions of light and shadow within the form.
